|jaenanda||03:30 pm - New Elfwood Community|
Because Elfwood is an ever-expanding project in and of itself, with thousands of artists of all different ability levels, it's not uncommon to see professional-level work in one gallery, while the next gallery over is filled with tiny figures in the middle of a 700x700 pixel square surrounded by blank space, drawn on lined paper.
The time has come to balance that equation a bit. ew_imagedoctors is a new lijejournal community whose purpose it is to connect novice artists with more experienced ones, who can volunteer their assistence in basic image doctoring, from cropping and englarging so evening out bad scans, fixing color blanace and even removing lines from lined paper.
Do you know your way arounds painter, photoshop, or even photodeluxe-- or perhaps any of a number of different image-editing programs? Would you like to take an active role in beautifying Elfwood and helping ALL of it's members achieve the best that they possibly can artistically? Then Image Doctors needs you.
You can volunteer to edit and adjust as many pictures as you want to do in a week, or a month. Persons requesting assistence will ask for it in a post, and volunteers can reach them in the comments boxes. It's that simple.
Are you a new artist who doesn't know their way around image-editing programs? Do your scans *always* seem to come out bad? Did you just draw the very best picture of your life-- on lined paper? Image Doctors was created to help you display your art as neatly and professionally as possible.
Let's work together to help all Elfwood artists achieve their very best in online art-display techniques.

|curvature||02:06 pm - Announcement - Moderators Journal|
The Elfwood Moderators have a new LJ community where you can keep up to date on what they're doing, the new journal is called ew_mods
"The purpose of this LJ is to fill in anything we mods might wish the public to know -- not necessarily just errors and bugs we see cropping up fairly regularly, but little humorous things. The mods are, contrary to some opinions, quite a silly bunch, and you might, while reading this journal, be startled into laughter a time or two. This is encouraged -- after all, like the ERB, the mods are regular people too. Regular people who happen to own a flamethrower. And a tank. And a rocket launcher. But really, aside from that, absolutely regular."

|pussinboots||10:36 am - EW! Gothic's first project!|
This project is for both artists and writers in Elfwood. When finished, all entries will be put into a tour. (The deadline is tentatively December 5th, but it can be pushed back if we reach it and people still need time.) Entries can be Wyvern's, Lothlorien, or Zone but NOT FanQuarter. If you are a member of more than one section of Elfwood, you can have an entry for each section. Even though ew_gothic is putting on this project, we are not going to be nazis about the entry being gothic. As long as it is unique, it's all good.
You will remake the balcony scene in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, adapting it to your individual tastes and style.
*** Artists ***
The scene can be manipulated by changing the clothing, scenery, species, sexes, orientations, and location of the involved parties. As an example, my Lothlorien submission takes place underwater with two female mermaids. This is up to extreme interpretation, and you may tailor it to your own style; just keep reasonably within Shakespeare's original intent.
*** Writers ***
You can either a) Re-write the scene (be creative!) or b) write about one of the art submissions. This can be a scene that matches the characters in the art, or simply a poem or description about the art.
The most important things are to have fun and be creative. Works in progress or links to them can be posted in ew_gothic at any time for opinions and suggestions, or simply to show off what you have done so far!

|lightmare||09:38 pm - New Coordinators|
I have added two new coordinators to posting access for this journal.
pussinboots represents ew_gothic, the elfwood gothic community
curvature represents handdrawn, the elfwood userpic project
Please note that posts here should be limited to specific project announcements to the general Elfwood community. The general etiquette is that one writes a detailed announcement or summary for elfwoodprojects and then plugs the announcement in elfwood, when appropriate (rather than double posts in both journals, or a single post in Elfwood).
If you are heading up an Elfwood project and would like to post announcements about its activities here, please send an email to Tarlia and me (lightmare) with a brief description of your project and why you would like posting access at this journal (ie: what types of announcements or polls you would need to do).

|lightmare||01:04 pm - Announcing the new Elfwood-LJ Community Service Project!|
It looks like handdrawn is on its feet!
Please visit and review the userinfo for more information.
Here is an excerpt:
We all need something to identify with, and some of us like to think outside the box.
Searching for a new userpic? Looking for something creative? You've found the right place.
handdrawn is the first community service project to be implemented by the elfwood community. Elfwood Artists have volunteered their time, creativity, and efforts, to offer you personally HANDDRAWN userpics for Livejournal and Elfwood.
handdrawn was created to combat the use of cropped copyrighted artwork as userpics, a practice done by many Livejournal users, without credit to the appropriate artists. By offering Elfwood talents, we hope to give people the enjoyment of fantasy and sci-fi artwork, but maintain the rights of artists and their work on the internet.
Take a look: handdrawn!

|lightmare||11:59 am - Lights in the Darkness Contest Voting|
Please review the entries HERE, remember to view both page 1 and 2. Then return here and check all entries which you feel suit the theme well!
The winners will be taken from popular votes. Only votes with reasons in the comment entry line will be considered. If you did not take the time to view ALL pieces (art, writing, and music), please say so in that field as well (up to 200 words).
NOTE: the entries are split into two sections, because livejournal has a limit on the number of poll options. All entries will be considered together, however, in the final counting.
Two winners will be announced within 2 weeks time: People's Choice and Moderator's Choice.
Good luck and Happy Voting!
